I bought and reviewed the first Vest version. Liked it so much I gave one as a gift and another surf buddy bought his own. All are still working fine, following a "don't tighten too much or recharge too long" strategy.

When I saw the Short John come out I had to get one!

Here are the improvements:
The controller has moved down to your thigh instead of against your ribs.
When you put on your wetsuit, it can't ride up like the vest can. So the heating element stays nicely positioned where it belongs.
I had never considered wearing sluggos or even rashies under my wetsuit, but with this Short John, there is NO MORE TOWEL DANCE. When the air is 20 degrees colder than the ocean, the time saved stripping off a dripping wetsuit is invaluable.

Buy the vest and not the short john if you need to use the restroom while wearing this. I didn't think about this key factor, and I'm buying the vest. I use it for mainly skiing and paddle-boarding. I you spend 6 hours in a wetsuit, then I suppose this is for you..
