This is your basic weekend volley short, suitable for just about anything you have planned at the beach, at the store, or at the water park. The drawstring waist is long enough to tie easily and will keep the shorts from falling off, and the elastic waist will expand to fit as your size changes. The two hip pockets are deep enough for your wallet, car keys, boat keys, your cell phone, your wife's cell phone, the digital camera, and a banana. If that still isn't enough capacity, you have a cargo pocket on the right leg to hold even more stuff, like half a sandwich, the parking pass, and a pacifier.

The length is stylish, about the same as boardshorts, and the seams are all double-stitched for durability. The inside liner fits like briefs and drains well, without feeling too tight around the thighs. The Quiksilver logo is nearly invisible on the left front hem and I'm surprised it isn't repeated on the cargo pocket flap nor on the center rear yoke like on board shorts. Part of me wishes it was, because otherwise the styling is so generic that it almost looks like you picked the shorts up at the convenience store where you got your $2 flipflops and extra large slushee drink. I wish they had some sort of embellishment on them, even if just "Quiksilver" on the cargo flap, to make them stand out a bit more.

I should also point out that these are waterpark-compliant, meaning that there are no sharp edges, no exposed zippers, and no metal adornments that would be prohibito on the black diamond slides. The materials is also good for hitting maximum velocity. That's when you'll really appreciate that drawstring waist.

The shorts are well made, look good, and the conservative styling means they'll never go out of style, or at least not for awhile. You'll be done with your SUV before you're done with these puppies. And you know what? You'll love the fact that they're so generic that they'll match every shirt you own, including the ugly one you got at your last beach tournament.
