About the Tsunami Diaries

Tsunami Diaries an insightful documentary of a relief effort after the tidal waves that devastated portions of Indonesia thru the eyes of our pro rider Timmy Turner. For those of you unfamiliar with Timmy, he directed and produced the successful surf movie "Second Thoughts" which won Video of The Year at the Surfer Poll 2 years ago just before embarking on this docu-journey/ humanitarian relief effort. Tsunami Diaries also just happened to be shot just prior to Timmy's life threatening battle with staph infection that spread through his sinuses and then into his brain. Doctors will tell you that his surviving is a miracle and after seeing this movie, it's obvious in more ways than one. So back to the evening, when I pulled up to the secret spot parking across the street and saw that it was stuffed full, I knew it was going to be a great night of Timmy Turner entertainment. The HBHS Auditorium is such a great venue for the local community and there were in excess of 300 people in attendance. Among the attendees were QS team riders Logan Strook, Quinn McCrystal, Billy Hopkins and HBHS surf team coach Andy Verdone and his lovely wife Shannon as well as former ASP World Champion Peter Townend and his famous pro skater son Tosh. The admission was $10 a person and portions of the proceeds were donated to the same cause as the movie, to help people in Indo rebuild their lives. The movie starts out with Timmy's wife Jessica laying into him and visibly upset about leaving his family to go into the disease ridden and dangerous areas of Indo with longtime friend and photographer Dustin Humphrey. Well, if that wasn't enough, Timmy's mother Michelle threw herself into the mix as well to help with the effort. Tsunami Diaries then takes you thru a turn of events that have changed the lives of entire towns and villages, literally hundreds of people. Timmy, Dustin and Michelle partner up with a few other journalists, local and international doctors, charter a boat and head into the troubled areas. Without spoiling the picture for everyone, Timmy and friends successfully make a positive impact on the places they visit to a region that had not seen any relief efforts due to their distant and remote locations. In the end, 72 tons of supplies and livestock included were distributed and in his own words, "give something back to a place that has given me so much". Tsunami Diaries was so well received it won an award at the Newport Beach Film Festival last May.
