Quiksilver in New Zealand

Part 1

Welcome to the land of meat pies, Speights Ale, and backward flushing toilets…That’s right people, New Zealand!  Not only are we here to enjoy the fore mentioned amenities, but also the wintertime goodness! While most of you are sweating it out at the local skate park, or paddling out at your favorite break, we are bundled up in the Southern Hemisphere during their winter to shred the snow, and gather some photos and footage before the season starts in North America.  Along for this journey are Quiksilver’s greenest, Bryan Fox and JP Tomich, and super pro, and Olympic Broze medalist Markku KoskiTodd Richards is here as well, but since he is officially shooting with DC, we have not seen him much.

The snowfall has been great this season in NZ, but the winds this week have been fierce.  We have been shooting at Snowpark and a couple of the local resorts located near the little town of Wanaka.  Although the conditions are not epic, we have been slaying it!  We have a scheduled shoot this evening at Snowpark, and forecasts look promising!

Part 2

The second half of the trip to NZ was riddled with wind and hard snow, and some rain.  We decided to try our luck at the now world famous Snow Park NZ.  Frank Wells and his crew made us feel welcome by building and shaping special features for us.  Bryan Fox hit a QP transfer, while JP bomb dropped a huge wall of rocks.  The wind proved to be too much for us for a good part of the time, so we killed time looking at the crazy and beautiful landscape that is New Zealand.  We also drank a ton of cappuccinos.  Fox let the caffeine get the better of him, and I was able to catch a rare moment from the normally subdued professional...check the photos.

More to come…
