Still the King
Kelly Slater Wins at Trestles, sets new World Record with 34 ASP World Tour Victories

“There were moments out there where it felt like it did in 1990, and to break Tom’s record at the place it all began for me is pretty magical.”  Kelly Slater

Kelly Slater had a huge day at the 2007 Boost Mobile Pro of Surfing.  He won the contest in great waves at Trestles, broke Tom Curren's record by notching his 34th world tour victory and vaulted to 2nd place in the ASP ratings.  With the Quiksilver Pro France starting later this week, he is now in great position to make a run for a 9th world title.

Breaking the record at Trestles was special for Kelly the as legendary spot was the venue for his first big win as a pro in 1990.  That event, showcased in the film "Kelly Slater in Black and White" changed surfing forever and Slater's performance revolutionized the sport.  17 years later, he is surfing better than ever and dominated all challengers throughout the contest.  His epic quarterfinal clash against friend Taylor Knox (watch it here) will go down in as one of the best heats ever and his surfing in the semis and final was also as good as it gets.  This new record puts him at the top of all of pro surfing's biggest feats - Most World Titles, Most Prize Money Earned, and now, Most Career Wins. Considering that Curren’s 33 wins came during the days of 30+ contests per year while today’s calendar only features 10, Slater’s achievement is even more impressive.

Quiksilver's Jeremy Flores, Troy Brooks and Dane Reynolds also had great runs at Trestles.  Flores finished 3rd, vaulted to 9th in the ratings and put himself in the driver's seat to win rookie of the year, Brooks meanwhile posted his best result of the year - a 5th, while giant killer Reynolds beat world number 1, Mick Fanning and #3, Taj Burrow.

Congratulations to Kelly, Jeremy and Dane from everyone at Quiksilver!
